about

This popular Israeli love song is based on a traditional Bukharian melody with a corresponding section composed by Yedidya Admon. The lyricist of the Hebrew version Yaakov Orland heard the traditional song at a Bukharian wedding in Jerusalem. He wrote Hebrew words and popularized it across British Mandate Palestine in the 1930s. A few years later, Admon composed a second half to the song. In subsequent years, the version that included the added Admon meody became the definitive version of the song.
